IIT-Madras' Zanzibar campus to start hiring, plans classes in October

IIT-Madras will bring in academic expertise and take charge of the admissions process while the Tanzania government will provide the financial and administration support, IIT-Madras director V Kamakoti told ET.

New Delhi: Indian Institute of Technology-Madras, the first IIT to set up an international campus, is going to start the recruitment process for faculty at Zanzibar, Tanzania, where classes for the first batch will start this October.

IIT-Madras will bring in academic expertise and take charge of the admissions process while the Tanzania government will provide the financial and administration support, IIT-Madras director V Kamakoti told ET.

Preeti Aghalayam has been appointed as the dean of the School of Science & Engineering. She is also the director-in-charge for the Zanzibar campus on a two-year tenure that can be extended, Kamakoti said.
