Taiwan is acknowledged to be a world leader in high technology developments, particularly in the advanced information technologies, wireless, semiconductor, biotechnology and other engineering sciences.
NCTU, one of Taiwan's leading universities, is already in the advanced stages of signing a MoU with IIT-KGP. NCTU also hopes to have IIT-KGP as a facilitator to initiate interactive technological exchange programs and collaborative research with other institutes as well.
Speaking to ET, Dr Dhrubes Biswas, chief technology officer, IIT-Kgp said, "The heads of four departments of NCTU, who have come to Kolkata, had extensive talks with IIT officials in this regard.
NCTU has created a science park under the PPP model, and in the future, we could look at that park as a model to set up a semi-conductor park here as well."
Educationists from NCTU have already started talks with their counterparts from BESU, CU, JU and WBUT at the Indo-Taiwan High Technology Educational Summit in the city on Saturday. The goal is to start the basis of a research collaboration.
"In West Bengal, we want to create a bigger pool of PhDs and Msc students who will do R&D in semi-conductor and chip fabrication. Thus, all these institutes have discussed and strategised with NCTU on the areas of collaboration, especially given the demand for engineers in semi-conductor processes," said Dr Biswas.
