IIT Hyderabad introduces minor in entrepreneurship to BTech curriculum

It covers a variety of courses including one 3-credit course on business plan development to be completed in a project mode.

MUMBAI: IIT Hyderabad ( IITH) has introduced a minor in entrepreneurship in its BTech curriculum with the intention of instilling the entrepreneurial spirit in students. This course is designed to equip students with the entrepreneurship competency, business acumen and entrepreneurial vision needed to become job creators.

Available to B Tech students in the third year, this programme is spread over 2 years and consists of 12 credits. It covers a variety of courses including one 3-credit course on business plan development to be completed in a project mode.

The course will be taught by faculty members, serial entrepreneurs, leaders from successful start-up organisations, and senior industry stalwarts who will provide the practical knowledge and guidance required for students to start and run a new business.

"Of all the student clubs, the E-cell (entrepreneurship cell), was very famous with the students. Given the interest among students, we decided to formalise this entrepreneurship course as a minor. We also have plans to set up a fill-fledged incubator to provide space, guidance, and environment to groom our students into entrepreneurs," said professor Faiz, dean, academic programme at IIT Hyderabad in a release.
