IIT heads to meet on Wednesday to discuss vacant seats

Chiefs of IITs will be meeting here on Wednesday to decide on how to fill up the vacant seats for SC and ST candidates.

NEW DELHI: Chiefs of IITs will be meeting here on Wednesday to decide on how to fill up the vacant seats for SC and ST candidates.

"A few seats for SC/ST candidates are lying vacant in the new IITs. This will be discussed in tomorrow's meeting and a final decision will be taken on how to fill them up," IIT Delhi Director Prof Surendra Prasad said.

The government has started six new IITs from this session. The activities of the new institutes are managed by the older institutes which are acting as mentor institutes for the new ones.

"Seats for the SC/ST are lying vacant in IIT Punjab. Similarly, there are certain vacancies in the other new IITs," he said.

The meeting will also decide on the preparatory courses to be provided to students who may be taken against the vacant seats.
