IISC Chitradurga to focus on global problems

Indian Institute of Science, coming with its new centre in Chitradurga district, would focus on global problems including that of energy and water, a top IISC official said.

BANGALORE: Indian Institute of Science, coming with its new centre in Chitradurga district, would focus on global problems including that of energy and water, a top IISC official said.

"The new IISC centre coming up on 1,500 acres of land in Chitradurga will not focus on discipline-based science but on global problems including the burning issues of energy and water", N Balakrishnan said during an IISC alumni awards function at its campus here on Saturday.

The IISC, Bangalore, will be commencing a new undergraduate programme for students just out of their schools next year. "We are looking at 300 students in the first year which will go upto 650 students in the coming years, taking the total number of students in IISC from the present 2,400 to 3,000", he said.

"As part of campus expansion programme during its centenary year, IISC here will have many new buildings including the Centenary Building, Chemical Science Complex, new hostels for students and accomodation for the faculty members", he said.
