THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Union Minister for Development of North East Region and Panchayati Raj Mani Shankar Aiyar inaugurated an 'education grid link' between Nagaland University and Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management-Kerala here today and said it would help improve the education programmes of Nagaland.

"It is also a process of bringing states that are backward in education to the mainstream," he said.

Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, State Education Minister M A Baby and Vice-Chancellor of Nagaland University Prof K Kannan were among those present on the occasion.

The two institutions are being linked through India's longest terrestrial connection over the Railway Optical Fibre Network.

Grid Link is a sequel to the MOU signed between Nagaland University and IIITM-K to work together on cooperation in technology enhanced education, joint academic programmes and work to provide inclusive education to all residents of Nagaland through a state-wide education grid.
