ICFAI to set up university in Punjab

The Punjab Government today agreed in principle to set up Institute of Chartered Financial Analyst of India (ICFAI) University at Gurney Kalan in Sangrur district.

CHANDIGARH: The Punjab Government today agreed in principle to set up Institute of Chartered Financial Analyst of India (ICFAI) University at Gurney Kalan in Sangrur district.

A decision to this effect was taken here in a meeting held here between Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and ICFAI delegation led by N Rajshekar, Member, Board of Governors.

Rajeshekar informed the Chief Minister that the project cost for establishment of the university is estimated at Rs 100 crore and the management had already acquired 30 acres of land at village Gurney Kalan.

Badal assured the delegation that Punjab government would extend support and cooperation for the establishment of the prestigious institution for higher learning.

He directed the Secretary Higher Education to prepare a draft bill for the Institute of Chartered Financial Analysts of India University, Punjab Act, 2007 for enactment by the state legislature paving a way for its establishment.

Rajeshekar said ICFAI in Punjab would focus in the fields of management, financial services and information technology.

Hyderabad-based ICFAI is a non-profit educational society. It has sponsored universities in Uttrakhand, Tripura, Sikkim , Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland and Jharkhand.

Rajeshekar said the admissions to all courses of ICFAI universities were strictly based on merit. There was no management quota or NRI quota, no capitation fee and no donations.
