The HRD Ministry is mulling over the idea of having special tribunals to settle all types of disputes involving teachers and the administration or management in institutions of higher learning.
The ministry has set up a committee headed by Higher Education Secretary R P Agrawal to look into possible options for settling disputes.
"The number of disputes involving teachers and management or administration are increasing. The idea is whether special tribunals can be started in institutions which would mainly deal with cases pertaining to teachers," a member of the committee told media.
The other members of the committee include Secretary, Elementary Education and Literacy, A K Rath and UGC Vice Chairman Prof M C Sharma.
At present, there are grievances redressal forums in the institutions. But they mainly deal with minor issues. In some of the institutions, these forums are not functional.
