Technology solutions provider Hewlett Packard (HP) has awarded a technology teaching grant to the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Guwahati.
The IIT will receive approximately $ 75,000 worth of technology such as HP tablet PCs, external storage and optical drives, wireless networking cards and printers as well as a stipend for staff to work on projects which have to be completed within a year, said HP India director for government and public affairs P Ravindranath.
Announcing this at a press conference here today, he said the grant was aimed at integrating mobile technology and educational infrastructure and transforming the way subjects are taught on its campus.
This year's HP technology for teaching grants have been presented to 13 universities in the Asia-Pacific region and Japan and this beneficiary pool will help HP achieve its vision of driving innovation to create technology that is accessible to everyone as a means to learn and work, Ravindranath said.
"HP will help IIT, Guwahati, establish a mobile learning centre where students taking computer science and IT courses can access content using hand-held computers," he said.
Gautam Barua, director IIT, Guwahati, welcomed the HP move which will bring down barriers between the learner and the teacher.
