Haryana to upgrade 5 more ITIs in FY06-07

Haryana government has decided to upgrade five more Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) as centres of excellence during the current fiscal, thus raising the number of such ITIs to 10.


CHANDIGARH: Haryana government has decided to upgrade five more Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) as centres of excellence during the current fiscal, thus raising the number of such ITIs to 10.

There is also a plan to expand the network of ITIs and increase their intake capacity, an official spokesman said here on Thursday.

Keeping in view the growing response, he said, the intake capacity would be increased by expanding the existing ITIs and opening more ITIs in the state.

He said about 80,000 applications were received against the annual intake of 9500.

The ITIs at Narwana and Hisar would be developed as centres of excellence in the areas of fabrication, those at Rewari and Sirsa would be upgraded in the areas of refrigeration and air-conditioning and the Rohtak would be upgraded in the field of automobile, he said.

He said the five ITIs, which have already been upgraded as centres of excellence included Ambala for instrumentation, Yamunanagar and Faridabad in the area of production and manufacturing and that of Karnal in leather goods and footwear and of Gurgaon in the area of automobile.
