Gujarat government to set up four universities near Vadodara

Vadodara District Collector Avantika Singh Alaukh said around 723 acres of land has been earmarked in Chokari for setting up four universities.

VADODARA: Gujarat government today announced to set up four universities, including a children's varsity, at Chokari village, about 35 kms from here.

Addressing a gathering, Gujarat Education Minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasama said, "The state government has decided to set up four universities at Chokari village. Besides a central university, there will be a children's university, a teachers' university and a sports university."

The minister was speaking on the sidelines of the launch of the Gujarat State Fertilisers & Chemicals Ltd (GSFC) University at Fertiliser Nagar on the outskirts of the city.

Vadodara District Collector Avantika Singh Alaukh said around 723 acres of government land has been earmarked in Chokari for setting up four universities.

Although the state-run GSFC will set up a varsity campus on 28 hectares of land near Dumad village on the outskirts of Vadodara, its academic session commenced from today at a makeshift campus in Fertiliser Nagar till the main infrastructure was being set up.

Talking to reporters, GSFC Chairman and Managing Director S K Nanda Rs 100 crore will be invested for the construction of GSFC University at Dumad. "The project will take about two years to complete," he said.
