Global students feel the IIM magic

The world is now watching the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) with renewed interest.

AHMEDABAD: It’s not just the India Story, which has caught the fancy of the world. The world is also watching the Indian management institutes (IIMs) with renewed interest.

Over 12 international colleges have flown into Ahmedabad to participate in the Confluence ’06, which has ‘The India Phenomenon’ as its central theme.

Allison Miller, who has come from the University of Berkeley, California, says they have been reading about the Indian economy in newspapers and they discuss it in college. “India is one of the emerging superpowers. In the past few years, India has become more visible across the globe.”

She says apart from companies, the institutes in India too are making news abroad. “Institutes in India are well-known. IIM-Ahmedabad is one of the best in Asia and that’s why we are here. We keep on hearing about placements that IIM passouts get,” she says.

Hong Kong’s Francis Chow says they were curious to know about the Indian economy. “IIM has given us the chance to meet face to face with the drivers of the economy and to learn more about India,” he says.

The same has attracted Victor Alamo, another student from ESADE Institute (Spain). It’s not just foreigners who are charmed by the India story. Indians who went overseas looking for greener pastures too are looking forward to their return.
