GATE 2020 examination conducted across India and international centres

NEW DELHI: A total of 684,903 candidates out of 859,048 registered candidates (79.73%) appeared in eight sessions at 566 centres across 199 cities. There were many challenges including the conduct of GATE in Jammu & Kashmir, declaration of state emergency/calamity in Kerala because of coronavirus, overlap with the election date in Delhi etc, according to IIT Delhi. IIT Delhi is the organising institute for GATE 2020 examination.

The examination was conducted on February 1, 2, 8 and 9 across India and the international centers at Dubai, Singapore, Ethiopia, Nepal and Dhaka.

For the first time, the candidates were given the choice of choosing examination centre in Srinagar. Total 5102 candidates preferred Srinagar as examination city for GATE 2020. Eleven test centres were identified to accommodate all candidates in Srinagar to facilitate them by avoiding travel outside the valley in harsh and unpredictable weather. Out of 5102 registered candidates, 4046 (79.30%) candidates wrote the examination in Srinagar.


Out of 5424 registered candidates, 4270 (78.70%) candidates appeared at centres in Jammu.
