Fresh row over IIT entrance test

NEW DELHI: The senate of IIT-Kanpur on Saturday suggested modifications to the compromise formula that had been hammered out late last month.

This decision comes within a few days after IIT Bombay made a similar demand. The IIT Kanpur senate has decided that students who appeared for their class XII board examination in 2012 will be exempt from meeting the 20 percentile rule.

The new common entrance examination makes it mandatory for all those selected for admission to the IITs to score among the top 20 percentile of their respective board in the school leaving examination.
