Yogi Adityanath's Uttar Pradesh government may provide free education from Kindergarten to Postgraduate level in the state and an announcement in this regard is expected to be made soon, Uttar Pradesh deputy chief minister Dinesh Sharma said.

"We are trying to start KG to PG scheme in a few cities from the next academic session," Dinesh Sharma said in a convocation ceremony of Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Rohilkhand University, yesterday.

This is the not the first time when a state minister has spoken about providing free education in the state. Earlier in the year, a state Cabinet minister had said that Yogi government may make an announcement for free education up to intermediate level.

Om Prakash Rajbhar, the minister for Divyang and OBC welfare, in February had said: "Yogi government will make education up to the intermediate level free and an announcement in this regard will be made soon."

To make education more accessible in the state, the state government had also passed a bill in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly to check arbitrary hike in fees by private schools.
