Five new awards for research by UKeri

The UK-India education and research initiative (UKeri), a programme funded by the governments of the UK and India, plans to announce five new awards for collaborative projects between educational institutes in the two countries.

LONDON: The UK-India education and research initiative (UKeri), a programme funded by the governments of the UK and India, plans to announce five new awards for collaborative projects between educational institutes in the two countries. Up to five awards, of around £500,000 each will be announced for research projects in various areas.

The UKEri was started, following talks between Blair and Singh, with a contribution of £12 million from the UK government. The Indian government has now added £6 million to the corpus and corporate sponsorships have poured in about £2 million.

The UKieri aims are to promote research partnerships between centres of excellence, and developing joint and dual course delivery, links between schools to bring together clusters of schools in the UK and India for joint curriculum projects and professional development opportunities, and towards developing professional and technical skills education and training which meets the needs of employers in financial services and creative industries. The bulk of the funds are focused towards promoting research collaborations.
