First school under public-private partnership by 2014

A total of 2,500 such schools will be set up over the next few years at the cost of Rs 30,000 crore.

NEW DELHI: India’s first school under public-private partnership is likely to come up in the next financial year with the central government finalising the model concession agreement on July 31.

A total of 2,500 such schools will be set up over the next few years at the cost of Rs 30,000 crore. According to the proposed agreement, private players will acquire land and set up buildings while the government will reimburse the running cost of at least 40% or 1,000 selected students per school at the rate being reimbursed for Kendriya Vidyalayas, with a 5% escalation every year.

Currently, the Centre reimburses Rs 21,000 per annum per student in Kendriya Vidyalayas.
