Feminine power on display at IIM-K

AHMEDABAD: Feminine power is on display at Indian Institute of Management-Kozhikode ( IIM-K), one of the youngest functional IIMs.

Among the 341 students admitted to the flagship post-graduate programme at the institute for the year 2011-13, 35% are women.
Out of the 121 female students admitted, 84 have common admission test percentile between 90 and 100, stated an official release here.

"Giving prominence to girl students has become a trend in IIM-Kozhikode. Last year also we had the maximum number of women students among all IIMs," institute director Debashis Chatterjee says.

"This is all on merit. The female students have brought greater diversity both in the learning environment as well as in their academic and social profiles. It is truly a transformation process at IIM-K whereby students whose parental income is less than a lakh per year end up with top jobs around the world" he adds.

Even at IIM-Ahmedabad, one of the oldest IIMs, the percentage of women students stands at 10.91% as per the list of first offers made to 380 students by the institute.

Out of 121 women students at IIM-K, 91 have engineering background while 15 are either commerce or economics graduate. Three women are doctors and one did graduation in law.
