Fee concession for SC-ST students in unaided schools
In a move to help Dalit students, Kerala Government today decided to re-imburse the tuition fees charged from the SC/ST students by the unaided schools in the state.
Revealing the cabinet decision in this regard, Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan told reporters that the re-imbursement would be limited to a maximum of Rs 2000 a year.
While SC and ST students enjoyed direct fee concessions in the government as well as the state-supported private schools, no such benefit was available in unaided schools run without any financial support from the government.
With the proliferation of unaided institutions in all parts of the state, there has been demand for extending cocessions to SC-ST students in these schools that attract children from socially and economically better off strata.
