Existing NITS should be upgraded into IITs: Kasliwal

Rather than starting from scratch, the government should convert the existing NITS into IITs, says Malviya National Institute of Technology Board of Governors Chairman Mukul Kasliwal.

JAIPUR: Rather than starting from scratch, the government should convert the existing NITS into IITs, Malviya National Institute of Technology Board of Governors Chairman Mukul Kasliwal said here on Saturday.

Addressing a press conference on the eve of the third convocation of MNIT at its campus, Kasliwal said, "In an existing institute of technology you have all the infrastructure available to convert it into an IIT, but to constitute an IIT from scratch is difficult."

He said the institute itself could be upgraded into an IIT, rather than setting up a new IIT in the state.

National Manufacturing Competitiveness Council Chairman V Krishnamurthy would be the chief guest at the function on Sunday.
