English should spread to rural India for rapid progress: Pawar
Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar on Sunday said knowledge of English should spread to rural India as the language had become a global medium of communication.
While one should have due pride in the use of mother tounge, English could not be ignored if all sections of the society were to make rapid progress, he said at a foundation laying ceremony of the proposed engineering college of Akhil Bharatiya Maratha Shikshan Parishad here.
Pawar also inaugurated a girls' hostel of the institution which concluded its centenary celebrations. The Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh, who presided over the function, announced a donation of Rs 25 lakh to the institution on the occasion.
