D-Day: 1.91-lakh applicants to take test
CAT 2007, the entrance test for the IIMs based in Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Kolkata, Lucknow, Indore and Kozhikode will be held on November 19, ’06.
Last year’s exam saw 1.58 lakh people appear for it in 24 cities to fill about 1,350 seats in the six IIMs. This year, the institutes are expected to increase the intake in varied percentages due to the quota factor.
The Moily report has recommended that IIM-A increase intake by 6% for the ’07-08 batch, IIM-B by 7%, IIM-C by 3%, IIM-I by 4%, IIM-K by 4.5% and IIM-L by 10%. The number of seats is expected to increase to over 2,000 for the ’07-08 batch.
IIM-B will hold the CAT in Bangalore, Hyderabad and Pune where 19,000 people, 10,000 and 14,000 respectively are expected to write the exam, said Subhabrata Das, chairman, admissions, IIM, Bangalore.
