Cut-offs, results set a new bar
Who’s broken in? Who’s missed the bus? Cat results for the written tests are out.
According to Ritesh Hemrajani, director of IMS Applect, a subsidiary of Institute of Management Studies (IMS), a section-wise cut-off expectation would be 35-40 marks in Maths and DI and 30-35 marks in Logic and 20-25 in English. Last year the overall cut-off was 45-55 marks.
A comparison with last year reveals that performance in English has deteriorated because of ambiguity in the questions. Apart from that, feels Mr Hemrajani, students could have fared better given the increased timing and less number of questions to solve.
IIM-A’s cut-off is already out and it requires students to score 95.33 percentile in each section and an overall 98 percentile to get a call.
If you compare the result with last year, 99% for English was 24 out of 50, while it is 81 out of 100 this year. For maths the 99 percentile was 19 out of 50 last year while it is 81 out of 100 this year. For DI and Logic it was 16 out of 50 last year, which is 67 out of 100 this year.
Commenting on the results, Ashish K Bhattacharyya, spokesperson, the CAT group and chairperson (admissions) IIM-C, said that the overall results this year had been better than last year. “The highest scored in logic and DI has been 86%, in the quantitative section, it’s been 100% and for verbal ability it’s been around 60%. The highest total this year has been 67.958%,” he said.
IIM Ahmedabad (IIM-A) has shortlisted over 820 students for around 280 seats, 30 more than last year, for the institute’s flagship PGP programme.
