CII moots 'skills' varsity for Kerala
CII proposes to set up a 'Skills' university to train students who have passed the 10th standard in employable technical skills.
The idea was put across to Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan by a delegation led by CII's Southern Regional Chairman Pradeepda K Mohapatra during a meeting here on Saturday.
"The proposed university is envisaged as a joint initiative between the state government and CII. It was very well-received by the Chief Minister," Mohapatra said.
When this materialises, it would be the first such university in the country, he said.
Considering the fast growth track the country is on, there would be a great demand for the technically-skilled persons in various sectors. Now there is a tremendous shortage of sufficient hands required to fill the job opportunities being generated, he said.
CII would, within a few weeks, draw up a blue-print on the project and send it to the state government.
CII would be working out a 'Vision Quarter' for Kerala for the first 25 years of the present century, highlighting the path of development the people expected the state should move, he said.
The delegation also met state Chief Secretary, Lizzie Jacob and Planning Board Vice-Chairman Prabhat Patnaik.
