ChrysCapital Pumps Rs 350 crore into Varthana

ChrysCapital has pumped in Rs 350 crore into Bengaluru-based nonbank finance company, Varthana, which finances private schools that cater to students from low-income families. This is the third round of funding raised by the NBFC which counts amongst its shareholders leading social impact investors such as Omidyar network and the impact investment arm of the prince of Leichtenstein.

Founded five years ago by former ICICI Bank executive Brajesh Mishra and Steve Hardgrave, the NBFC has provided loans to over 3,500 schools since inception.

We are humbled that they are as convinced as we are about Varthana’s potential to have a significant, positive impact on the Indian education ecosystem,” co-founders Brajesh Mishra and Steve Hardgrave said.


Varthana provides unsecured and secured loans to schools up to Rs 2 crore for a variety of purposes including upgradation of physical infrastructure and working capital needs.
