Child education comes upfront at TIMES meet
Dealing with success and failure, all-round development of children in schools and the importance of childhood were the talking points of the TIMES NIE teachers meet on Wednesday.
The distinguished speakers at the event were Mahesh Bhatt, the noted film director and producer, Kiran Bedi, IPS officer and Magsaysay awardee, Puja Jain from Luxor Pens, Arindam Sengupta, resident editor, The Times of India, and Ravi Dhariwal, BCCL executive director.
Mr Bhatt spoke of the importance of broadening the scope of education to allow children to retain their inquisitiveness. The use of the audio-visual medium came in for a special mention for reaching out to those who have not had the benefits of a proper school education.
Ms Bedi highlighted the advantages of all-round development in light of rising cut-off percentages in colleges and strengthening the “roots of” Indian children through education to help them deal with success or failure better. The talks were followed by a Q&A round that saw teachers posing some thought-provoking questions to the speakers at the event.
