CAT extends time for application

The deadline for submitting application forms for CAT, the gateway for entry into the IIMs and other B-schools, has been extended by five days till 5pm on September 27.

BENGALURU: The Indian Institutes of Management extended the registration window for the Common Admission Test for the third year in a row on requests from applicants, as the number of forms submitted approached last year’s total.

The deadline for submitting application forms for CAT, the gateway for entry into the IIMs and other B-schools, has been extended by five days till 5pm on September 27, IIM Bangalore, the organiser of this year’s entrance exam, said in a statement. The change has been notified on the CAT website. “The primary reason for the extension is to facilitate applicants who are still in the process of completing their applications. There are many applicants in this stage and we have been getting many requests from them,” said professor Rajendra K Bandi, convenor of CAT 2016.

The number of applications received as of 3:30pm stood at 2.08 lakh compared with 1.83 lakh submitted in the comparable period last year, according to the statement issued on Thursday. Last year, too, there had been a five-day extension in the registration window which led to an additional 35,632 applications coming in, taking the final tally to 2,18,664, a three-year high. The test is scheduled to be held on December 4.
