The capital is soon to get a Institute of Information Technology with the Delhi government on Monday clearing the setting up of the institution, which is aimed at meeting the opportunities thrown up by the global IT industry.

NEW DELHI: The capital is soon to get a Institute of Information Technology with the Delhi government on Monday clearing the setting up of the institution, which is aimed at meeting the opportunities thrown up by the global IT industry.

The meeting of the Delhi Cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit cleared the proposal for setting up Indraprashta Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) by enacting "The IIIT-Delhi Bill, 2007".

The insitute will have an autonomous status and and would be established as a state university, Dikshit said after the meeting.

Lt Governor will be the Chancellor of the University while Director IIT-Delhi will be the scholar of eminence, she said.

"The institute aims at not only meeting the opportunities thrown up by global IT industry but also at the changing paradigms of business in specific industry domains through increasing access, quality and cost effectiveness of services," Dikshit said.

The institute would offer B.Tech (IT), five-year integrated M.Tech (IT), two-year M.Tech (IT), PG diploma and PhD.

In a bid to bring more transparency in existing tender process, the government also decided to implement the e-procurement tendering solution and all tenders would be covered under the e-procurement system.

The cabinet also cleared the setting up of a mechanised chicken dressing plant at poultry market in Ghazipur.
