'Bill for collaboration with foreign universities soon'
The government is contemplating to introduce a bill to facilitate collaboration between Indian and foreign universities for improving the quality of education, Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia said on Wednesday.
Such collaboration would enhance the quality of education with teachers visiting other universities frequently for exchanging ideas, Ahluwalia said at the 12th Dr S Radhakrishnan Memorial Lecture organised by Indian Institute of Advanced Studies (IIAS) on Teachers Day.
The Planning Commission Deputy Chairman hinted that there would be more emphasise on the growth of agriculture sector from two per cent to four per cent while stress would also be laid on quality education and health sector.
He said there is a need to relook the agriculture sector policy to achieve four per cent growth rate and all state governments should chalk out strategies keeping in view the agro climatic zone.
Singh said there is a scope to increase rice and wheat production in the central part of the country.
He said a meeting of the Planning Commission would be called soon to chalk out a strategy for the 11th five year plan. The government intends to strengthen social sector infrastructure during the plan period.
Himachal Pradesh Governor V S Kokje suggested to set up Universities Commission on the lines of Local Bodies Commission to make flow of funds to the institutions easy.
