Around 34 per cent schools in Guwahati had major structural vulnerability: Survey

GUWAHATI: A report on the status survey of schools and hospitals of Guwahati city conducted by the Assam Engineering College (AEC) showed that 34% of schools in Guwahati had major structural vulnerability, 74% had major non-structural vulnerability, 5% are prone to urban flood and 8% to landslides

The 5 thmeeting of the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) was held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister and Chairperson, SDMA, Tarun Gogoi on Monday.

The survey report reveals that nearly 50% of the hospitals in the city either do not have DM plans or have never conducted simulation drills. Further 23% of city hospitals do not have structural drawings available for conducting a structural assessment of the same. 19% of hospitals in the city are also prone to major fire hazards.

The survey was conducted in 770 schools and 48 hospitals in the city.
