Appoint teachers on permanent basis: committee
A house committee of state assembly today directed the education department to do away with the contractual appointments of teachers and create permanent posts so that students do not suffer.
"The education department needs to give away the practice of contractual appointments of lecturers and teachers. It should rather create posts on permanent basis so that the studies of students may not suffer," Estimates Committee of the assembly that met here today, with PDP MLA Ghulam Hassan Khan in the chair, said.
The committee also asked the department to upgrade the infrastructural facilities and ensure that education is available to all, irrespective of boundaries.
"As per the constitutional obligation government is committed to provide elementary education to all children from the age of 6-14 years at their doorsteps," secretary education K M Wani said.
Director colleges N D Wani apprised the committee about the boost higher education has received by establishing new colleges at various localities adding that government has referred 843 posts of lecturers to public service commission for early selection for newly established colleges.
Expressing concern over the mushrooming of B.ed colleges in the state, the committee suggested the department to conduct a survey and fix new parameters as per the requirements.
The colleges should also start new curriculum as per the changed education scenario world over with a thrust on professional courses which have job potential in the market, the committee said.
