Anna Varsity Vice-Chancellor has different view on use of mobile

Anna University Vice-Chancellor Dr V Ramachandran said he sees cell phone as a "communication equipment, an essential one."

MADURAI: Taking a different view on dress code for girls and use of mobile phones, Anna University (Tiruchirappalli) Vice-Chancellor Dr V Ramachandran said he sees cell phone as a "communication equipment, an essential one."
"Nowadays students use it for various purposes..including to transmit information by SMS," he told reporters here today.
He did not think that cell phone could distract the students or affect their performance."There are students who consult their seniors or teachers regarding their projects, using their cell phone."
On the dress code for the women students,he said it was everybody's wish that women students should be dressed decently. But then the University could not waste its precious time on imposing dress code,he said.
"It is between the parents and the students.Parents should decide how their daughters should go to school."
The ban imposed on students carrying cell phones and insisting on proper dress code for girls by the former Anna University (Chennai) Dr.Viswanathan led to a furore,with girl students strongly objecting to imposing the dress code. There was also heated debate over using cell phones inside the college premises.Viswanathan was of the view that the ban on cell phones inside the college enhanced the performance of the students to a great degree
