AMU campuses to be converted to universities

The centres at Murshidabad in West Bengal and Mallapuram in Kerala are operational, while the third is yet to be set up in Kishanganj, Bihar.

NEW DELHI: Ahead of the 2014 elections, the UPA government is finalising plans to convert the three centres of Aligarh Muslim University into full-fledged universities.

Earlier this week, HRD Minister Pallam Raju and Minority Affairs Minister K Rahman Khan met over this issue. The proposal will now be fleshed out at secretary-level discussions. The centres at Murshidabad in West Bengal and Mallapuram in Kerala are operational, while the third is yet to be set up in Kishanganj, Bihar.
