Accenture ties up with MIT unit
Co-branded training & certification programme to cover 20,000 people across Accenture’s centres globally
“Recognising the criticality of human resource for the IT industry, there is a need for developing a skilled and talented workforce by establishing a meaningful and effective interface between the IT industry and academia,” said Kevin Campbell, group chief executive - outsourcing, Accenture. He added that this is particularly important for the company’s outsourcing business as “we continue to ensure the consistency of the services provided to clients” .
To earn their certification through the Accenture Solutions Delivery Academy, employees must complete online and classroom coursework, apply their knowledge on practical assignments and pass a series of rigorous exams. The duration of the courses is between 18-20 months for each. Employees who successfully complete the programme will be awarded ‘application developer’ or ‘application designer’ certifications by Accenture and MIT PEP, recognising software engineering, system-integration and application-delivery skills, said Sandeep Arora, lead executive, Accenture delivery centre for technology, India.
About 20,000 Accenture employees in the one-four years experience category are eligible to enroll in the programme, making it the largest such initiative ever undertaken by MIT PEP.
The first participants, numbering a few hundreds, are expected to receive their certification in August, 2007. Already , about 4,000 people in Accenture India have enrolled for the programme, said Mr Arora.
In FY06, Accenture spent approximately $700 million on training its employees globally.
