Academicians appeal DU, UGC to resolve FYUP deadlock soon

NEW DELHI: A group of academicians today appealed to Delhi University and UGC to immediately resolve the impasse over the four-year undergraduate programme ( FYUP) in the interest of students.

The academicians, including Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha (GGSIP) University Vice Chancellor Anil Tyagi, Panjab University VC Arun Grover, St Stephen's college principal Valson Thampu and professor Vijay Choudhary, member of department of Microbiology of DU, also proposed some steps to resolve the issue.

The proposal was submitted to Delhi University VC Dinesh Singh.

Addressing media here, Choudhary said, "We have proposed a 3-year honours programme that is easily devised by reverting to several features of the old semesters format and by drastically reducing the existing courses that are not of the honours stream and that exist in the current format."

"The existing B Tech courses should be left untouched. For students who have been admitted last year, the courses of study shall be modified by removing the foundation courses of the second year," he added.

He said that the foundation courses may be reduced in number and may be offered only in the first year.

"During a meeting with the VC, we discussed our proposals. He told us that he would consider it," Choudhary told reporters.
