8 new Regional Vocational Training Institutes by 2017: Government

NEW DELHI: The government has approved setting up of eight new Regional Vocational Training Institutes (RVTIs) in the country by 2017, the Rajya Sabha was informed today.

Replying to supplementaries during Question Hour, Minister for Labour and Employment Narendra Singh Tomar said the government had on February 28, 2014 sanctioned setting up of 8 RVTIs in Tamil Nadu, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Tripura, Bihar, Goa, Uttrakhand and Jammu and Kashmir.

These will be operationalised by 2017, he said. Stating that the land acquisition for RVTIs is being initiated, he said "it would be possible to make the institute functional in 24 months after the land is transferred to the Central government by the state government."
