Preparing for a MBA? Apart from the aptitude test, you will have to brace up for an interview. Here are 5 tips to help you sail through the grilling of an MBA interview:

Tell me about yourself

This question finds its way to most MBA interviews. What you say triggers a follow-up question. Practise answering it in 30 seconds, 2 minutes and 5 minutes for different interviewers. Leave out details and use a reverse chronological order.

Three stories approach

The stock questions are: tell us about a leadership situation or what is your weakness? Give two examples from your life with an additional story, if possible. Follow this structure: the issue, action taken, result, and learning.

Work the look

Your appearance is the first impression for the interviewer and you cannot afford to go wrong. Personal hygiene and trimmed, brushed hair should complement a formal look. A fresh white or light shirt with an ironed dark suit works best.

Mock interviews

No amount of self-preparation is like the real interview. Prepare by having friends, seniors and working professionals conduct mock interviews and share feedback on your body language and the impression your words leave. Have a full dress rehearsal before the interview.
