IIT Bombay, IISc Bangalore among 35 Indian institutes in QS World University rankings

IIT Bombay, which retained its status as the highest-ranked Indian institute for the fourth consecutive year, is joint-177th in the overall ranking, having fallen five places from last year. IIT Delhi has become India’s second-best university, rising from the 193rd to the 185th position, edging out IISc Bangalore, which is a joint-186th. This year, IIT Madras has risen 20 places, and now ranks joint-255th, its highest since 2017. IIT Kanpur (277th) has moved back into the top-300 and attained its highest rank since 2016. At 280th, IIT Kharagpur is at its highest-ever position in the QS World University Rankings. IIT Guwahati (joint-395th) has entered the global top-400 for the first time, while IIT Hyderabad (591st-600th band) marked its entry into the top 600. Jawaharlal Nehru University made its debut in the QS World University Rankings, and is positioned in the 561st-570th band.
As a sector, Indian universities have made consistent progress in QS’ Academic Reputation (AR) metric: 20 of India’s 35 entrants have improved their AR scores, while nine have seen a drop. Indian universities have also improved their research impact relative to global competitors. Seventeen of India’s 35 universities have seen a rise in the Citations per Faculty (CPF) score, against 12 that saw a drop.
