35% female candidates appear for CAT 2021 among 1.92 lakh candidates

Around 1.92 lakh candidates appeared for the Common Admission Test (CAT) 2021 exam out of 2.30 lakhs registered eligible candidates. Last year, about 1.90 lakh applicants appeared for the CAT 2020 exam.

Around 1.92 lakh candidates appeared for the Common Admission Test (CAT) 2021 exam out of 2.30 lakhs registered eligible candidates. Out of the 1.92 lakh candidates, 35% were females, 65% males and only 2 candidates represent transgender, according to to a statement released by the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ahmedabad. This year, there is a marginal increase in the number of candidates who appeared for the CAT. Last year, about 1.90 lakh applicants appeared for the CAT 2020 exam.

The overall attendance was approximately 83% held on November 28, according to IIM Ahmedabad (the convenor of CAT 2021). Around 2.31 lakh candidates had registered for CAT 2021, higher than the candidates registered in 2020.

"CAT centre and its delivery partner Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) Limited had taken measures to ensure implementation of Covid-19 advisory of the Government of India and State Governments on social distancing and other preventive/protective measures at the examination centres," according to the statement issued by the institute.


CAT 2021 was conducted at 438 test centres spread across 156 cities in India in three shifts. The duration of the test was 120 minutes (160 minutes for PwD candidates). The time allotted for each Section is 40 minutes (53 minutes and 20 seconds for PwD Candidates).
