12 states/UTs adopt NCERT textbooks, syllabus

Twelve states and union territories have adopted NCERT syllabus and textbooks for school education.


NEW DELHI: Twelve states and union territories have adopted NCERT syllabus and textbooks for school education.

These states and union territories are Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Arunachal Pradesh, Chandigarh, Jharkhand, Delhi, Goa, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Bihar, Jammu and Kashmir, Sikkim and Uttarakhand, a NCERT official said.

Andhra Pradesh is also planning to adopt the NCERT syllabus, which has been prepared as per the guidelines of National Curriculum Framework (NCF) 2004. Besides these states, CBSE has also adopted the NCERT syllabus and textbooks.

"The NCF contains broad guidelines for preparation of the curriculum and syllabus. It harps on relating knowledge to the life beyond schools. Now 12 states and union territories have adopted the NCERT syllabus," he said.

The NCERT is providing financial support of Rs 10 lakh to each state for adopting its syllabus.

Some states have developed state curriculum framework on the lines of NCF. These states include Orissa, Kerala and Karnataka.
