Law firms launch Society of Trust and Estate Practioners in India

MUMBAI: The Society of Trust and Estate Practioners, or STEP, initiated its India chapter on Tuesday. Spearheading the launch of the London-based society in India werelaw firms Nishith Desai Associates, Cyril Amarchand Managaldas, SNG Partners and Khaitan & Co.

It has taken over a year to introduce the volunteer organisation that promotes standards for wealth services such as estate planning to India, said STEP worldwide chairman Edward Buckland.

Nishith Desai is chairman and Cyril Shroff is deputy chairman of STEP India. Rajesh Narain Gupta of SNG Partners is treasurer and Poonam Mirchandani from Barclay's Wealth Trustees is secretary. Other committee members include senior Khaitan & Co. partner Daksha Baxi along with Ashwini Chopra and Rishabh Shroff, son of Cyril Shroff.
