Huge demand-supply gap in qualified architects, says senior architect Shrinath Tandur

COIMBATORE: There was a huge demand and supply gap for qualified architects in the country, particularly in Tier Two and Three cities, a Senior Fellow of the Indian Institute of Architects said today.

Though the technological impact was very vast in the architecture sector of late, availability of professionally qualified architects to cater to the needs of construction industry was not enough, Shrinath Tandur told PTI.

However, the requirements were partially met by the professionals in larger cities like metros, he said.

Tandur, who earlier inaugurated the Nehru School of Architechture started at Nehru Group of Institutions, said it was not profitable to run a one or two member architecture firm in small cities, due to cost factor.

Earlier addressing the students, Tandur said that methods of construction were constantly changing as well and contract documents specified the end products and routinely left to the contractor to up with the methodology.

Dr P Krishnakumar, CEO and Secretary of the Group said that all the 40 seats were filled for the first batch of the course, which was approved by Council Of Architechture.
