EIL to hand over report for Oman bitumen plant in Feb 2008

Engineers India Ltd said the report for the upcoming Sohar bitumen plant would be handed over to the Omani authorities by February 2008.

DUBAI: Engineers India Ltd, which bagged the contract to prepare a feasibility report for a bitumen plant in Oman in August, said the report for the upcoming Sohar bitumen plant would be handed over to the Omani authorities by February 2008.

EIL is conducting the study to make the paving grade bitumen in the proposed unit, which would require investment of around USD 80-100 million depending upon the technology. Bitumen is used in road asphalting.

"We have to design the vacuum unit to get the residue, and from that vacuum residue what paths to follow to get the paving grade bitumen. This will actually help in setting up the plant," EIL Chairman and Managing Director Mukesh Rohatgi, who is visiting Oman along with a delegation told Times of Oman.

Rohatgi along with his team met Oman's minister of oil and gas Mohammed bin Hamad bin Saif Al Romhi and informed him of the various projects undertaken by the company in various countries.

The delegation also expressed their desire to offer their experience and expertise in all possible manners as desired by the authorities here.

Both sides discussed about the integrity assessment of the various gas pipelines and EIL shared its experience in India.
