CCI appoints six law firms for representation

MUMBAI: Anti-monopoly regulator, Competition Commission of India ( CCI) has appointed its first formal panel of external legal advisers and six firms to represent the regulator in various jurisdictions.

The regulator, which looks into cases related to cartelization and abuse of dominant position, has appointed start-up firm Advaya Legal for Mumbai, Verus Advocates and Canpisce & Co for Delhi, Fox Mandal & Co for Kolkata, KNG Partners for Nagpur and Lexus Partners for Kerala for representation.

"We look at this as a rare opportunity," said Ramesh Vaidyanathan, Partner, Advaya Legal. "Act for one of the country's most important regulators is an achievement and we value this appointment immensely."

This appointment is for three years where these firms will advise and represent the CCI on legal matters and issues. The Delhi-based regulator has also appointed advocates including Anupam Sanghi, Brijender Chahar, Sudhir Kulshreshtha, Rajiv Saxena, Pankaj Seth, Balbir Singh, Arjun Krishnan, Soni Singh and Ankit Jain on its panel.

"The main objective of competition law is to promote economic efficiency using competition as one of the means of assisting the creation of market responsive to consumer preferences," says company website. "The advantages of perfect competition are three-fold: allocative efficiency, which ensures the effective allocation of resources, productive efficiency, which ensures that costs of production are kept at a minimum and dynamic efficiency, which promotes innovative practices," it further adds.
