CAG proposes functional autonomy for internal auditors
NEW DELHI: The Comptroller and Auditor General V N Kaul has proposed functional autonomy for internal auditors in various ministries and government departments.
This suggestion is part of six recommendations made by a Task Force constituted by the CAG to strengthen internal audit in the government of India.
"The Task Force had submitted these recommendations to the Finance Ministry in November last year," Kaul said here today while addressing senior officers of the Indian Defence Accounts Service and Indian Civil Accounts Service.
He hoped that the government would soon take a decision to undertake reforms in the internal audit of the government.
Seeking independence for internal auditors from the administrative set up, Kaul said that these auditors should report directly to the secretaries to the ministries and heads of various departments and agencies.
In his address, the CAG said goverment auditors should adopt international benchmark in auditing standards and also called for computerisation to detect frauds and corruptions.
