Star bags exclusive deal for Vodafone campaign

Vodafone will use all of the commercial airtime across the Star India network from 9 pm on September 20 to 9 pm of September 21 to run TV commercials, transition bumpers and contest spots to promote the Vodafone brand.

NEW DELHI: Leading broadcaster Star India on Wednesday said it has entered into an exclusive deal with mobile service provider Vodafone Essar for the latter's rebranding campaign to Vodafone from Hutch.

"Vodafone will use all of the commercial airtime across the Star India network from 9 pm on September 20 to 9 pm of September 21 to run TV commercials, transition bumpers and contest spots to promote the Vodafone brand," a Star India statement said.

The deal enables Vodafone to reach 63 million viewers across 13 channels in five languages, it said.

Star's announcement follows completion of Hutch's migration to the Vodafone brand even as the pug that made the mobile company ever so popular with the masses was retained.

Commenting on the exclusive deal, Star India chief operating office Uday Shankar said: "This is an idea whose time has come. This is going to kick start dynamism in broadcasting advertising that's been lacking so far."

The exclusive agreement would mean that Star's rivals such as SET and ZEE would be missing out on the rebranding campaign, although for normal campaigns the mobile company can run ads on other channels.
