NEW DELHI: As many as 15 companies, including Hyundai Motor India Ltd, Trent Ltd, Reckitt Benckiser and Dabur India were pulled up by the Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI) for violating code of conduct in the first three months of this year.

According to ASCI, its Consumer Complaints Council (CCC) had registered complaints of false promises, misconstrued and offensive advertisements against various companies.

Leading auto maker Hyundai Motor India Ltd's advertisement for its diesel variant 'CRDI VGT' claiming a fuel economy of 32.8 Kmpl had to be discontinued as the claim was not substantiated, the council said.

Trent Ltd, a Tata group company, was asked to withdraw its advertisement for 'Sisley Fall winter Collection', which showed a woman in a "provocative pose" subsequently with the tag line "You'll melt once inside". The council felt the headline read in conjunction with the visual depiction could cause widespread offence.

CCC said the company assured that such ads would not be released again.

Reckitt Benkiser's Dettol advertisement was modified after the company failed to substantiate the specific organisms that cause cough and cold and how Dettol worked to eliminate them.
