Airtel drops Tendulkar as brand ambassador

Airtel has decided to drop ace batsman Sachin Tendulkar as its brand ambassador in an event seen as reflecting his rating based on current performance.

NEW DELHI: Airtel has decided to drop ace batsman Sachin Tendulkar as its brand ambassador in an event seen as reflecting his rating based on current performance.

When contacted, an Airtel spokesperson confirmed the exit of Tendulkar from being the company's brand ambassador.

With this, Bollywood star Sharukh Khan remains the only brand ambassador of the leading telecom service company.

Sources said the contract with Tendulkar was not renewed and Airtel did not make any offers to renew it. The contract was up for a renewal last week.

In 2004, Airtel had signed on Tendulkar citing they (the company) shared the same brand values -- reliable, trustworthy and leaders in their respective fields.

"Sachin, over the years, has done India proud and has added great value to the association with Airtel. Telecom is a rapidly evolving industry which attracts different consumer segments at different times. The brand and marketing strategy hence needs to reflect the evolution of the industry as well as the market," he said.
