TVS starts production of BMW's electric two-wheeler CE02 at Hosur plant

Two-wheeler maker TVS Motor has started production of BMW's electric two-wheeler CE02 at its Hosur plant.

"Over the past ten years, TVS Motor and BMW Motorrad have forged a partnership built on shared values of quality, performance, and innovation. This successful collaboration has led to numerous achievements and highlights, solidifying the strong bond between the two companies. It has been the steppingstone for extending and expanding the partnership by the two companies in December 2021. In line with this, TVS Motor and BMW Motorrad is jointly developing new platforms and future technologies, including electric vehicles," TV said in a statement

TVS said that its Hosur plant will be a global manufacturing base for BMW CE02 electric two-wheeler.


The CE02 prototype was earlier unveiled by BMW Motorrad at Munich.


The CE02, which looks like something straight out of a sci-fi movie, comes with a minimalistic design.

As per BMW, it offers 14 hp of power and a range of 55 miles, which is about 88 kilometers. The scooter offers a decent 55 mph or 88 kmph top speed.

Note that these specifications are of a concept model and the on-road model may have some design tweaks and changes in its specification.

TVS has earlier in August this year announced to invest Rs 3,900 crore over next 4-5 years to boost its green portfolio.

TVS recently launched a premium electric bike, the TVS X, at Rs 2.5 lakh. Its iQube Electric is said to be second highest selling electric scooter in India with about 10,000 monthly sales.

Meanwhile, TVS today said that its partnership with BMW has completed 10 years of two-wheeler manufacturing. TVS signed a startegic partnership deal with BMW in April 2013 to manufacture sub-500 CC motorcyles for the globe. TVS's Hosur factory already manufactures BMW G310R and 310GS.

. Together, the two companies have developed and launched five iconic motorcycles, including the BMW G 310 R, BMW 310 GS, BMW G310 RR, along with TVS Motor Company’s flagship motorcycles, TVS Apache RR 310 and the recently launched TVS Apache RTR 310.

TVS today also announced the roll out of 150,000 unit of BMW Motorrad’s 310cc series of motorcycles. The motorcycle was rolled out from the TVS Motor’s Hosur facility by Mr KN Radhakrishnan, Director & CEO, TVS Motor Company and Dr Markus Schramm, Head of BMW Motorrad.
