The PM Suryaghar Muft Bijli Yojana has seen 685,763 installations so far since its launch in February this year, which is already 86% of what was installed in a decade before that, a senior government official said.

The major demand came from the 3-5 kW load segment which generally has a consumption of over 300 units. Of the total installations, 77% was in the 3-5 kW segment, while 14% was in the segment higher than 5kW.

Gujarat showed the highest installations followed by Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh and Kerala. The larger adoption by consumers, apart from the subsidy, has been because of the removal of consumer impediments - feasibility, inspection, meter availability and agreement signing, the official said.

Prominent states with the number of installations less than 100 so far were Tripura, Jharkhand, Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur.
